The Essentials of Tense-Rich English: An Integrated Approach

This book comprises 10 units effectively discussing the essentials of tenses in English grammar. English is known as an International language with a rich variety of tenses, hence “Tense-Rich English.” The ten units presented in this book cover discussions on Simple Present, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, Simple Past, Past Continuous, Future Tense, Modals, Phrases, The Imperatives, and Common Errors and Idioms in English.

In general, each unit encompasses discussions on Grammar in Discourse, Forms, Examining Forms, and Exercises and Summary. What makes this book intriguing and distinctive is its approach to the grammar, which goes beyond the mere formation of grammatical structures (grammar forms). Instead, it delves into a contextual integration of grammar through speaking, conversations, dialogues, and reading texts (Integrated Approach). As a result, the book effectively guides readers in three essential aspects: proficiency in speaking, reading, and grammar – all within a single guidebook.

In the introductory section of each unit, a topic is presented, drawn from articles, magazines, online texts, and other reading sources. Subsequently, readers are guided to engage in conversations related to the presented topic. Following this, grammar is discussed from the perspective of its formulaic structure (forms), its contextual usage in sentences (meaning and use), and concludes with exercises and a summary discussion to refine and test the reader’s understanding of the unit’s content.

Particularly in the final unit, there is a slight difference from the explanations provided in the preceding units. This unit is dedicated to elaborating some ‘common errors’ frequently made by English language learners. Despite appearing trivial, these errors can have a significant impact on the meaning of sentences when not used in the correct and precise context. Additionally, the unit introduces some unstructured grammatical expressions, commonly known as ‘idioms’, which are often encountered in everyday conversations.
